Brendan Rodgers: 'We needed to develop squad'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers admits that it was imperative that the club made a number of signings this summer to try to compete in all competitions.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that the club have just "one or two things" to complete before the end of the transfer window.

The Merseyside outfit have made six signings during the summer, with Sevilla defender Alberto Moreno to follow shortly, and Rodgers has admitted that it was necessary to make a number of additions after Liverpool's return to the Champions League.

The 41-year-old told reporters: "We're nearly done with transfers. "There's one or two more things to complete.

"We needed to develop the squad this year, add more depth. The players that we've brought in will allow us to deal with injuries and more games. We needed to bring in players this summer.

"This summer will probably be our biggest transfer window for the next two years."

Liverpool begin the new season with a home match against Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
