Liverpool announce that third-choice goalkeeper Alisson has signed a new one-year deal at the club until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

Liverpool have confirmed that third-choice goalkeeper Adrian has signed a new one-year contract at Anfield.

The veteran Spaniard would have originally been able to seek pastures new on a free transfer from July onwards, but he was not named among Liverpool's list of released players.

Instead, the Reds confirmed that contract talks were ongoing with Adrian, whose experience makes him a highly-valued member of Jurgen Klopp's squad.

Having enjoyed positive discussions with Adrian's camp, Liverpool have now confirmed that the 36-year-old has put pen to paper on a new deal until the end of the 2023-24 campaign.

The former West Ham United man reacted to the new on Twitter, sharing a photo collage of some of his memorable moments in a Reds jersey with the caption: "Once a Red, always a Red! So proud and happy to be part of you one more year! YNWA."

Adrian made a name for himself at West Ham United before departing the Irons after six years in 2019, joining Liverpool on a free transfer to provide backup to Alisson Becker.

With the Brazilian quickly establishing himself as Klopp's number one, as well as the emergence of Caoimhin Kelleher, Adrian has been restricted to just 26 appearances in a Liverpool shirt over the past four years.

The Spaniard has kept seven clean sheets for the Reds in that time, helping Liverpool win the 2019 UEFA Super Cup in just his second appearance, crucially saving a penalty from Tammy Abraham in their penalty-shootout success over Chelsea.

Adrian also featured in each of Liverpool's first eight Premier League games of their 2019-20 title-winning season due to an injury for Alisson - with the Reds winning all eight - but he has played just six times in the top flight since.

Adrian's most recent Premier League appearance came all the way back in February 2021 against Sheffield United, and his only outing in 2022-23 came in the Community Shield, where Liverpool ran out 3-1 winners over Manchester City.

While Adrian has committed the next year of his career to Liverpool, Kelleher's future has been called into question over the past few months due to his own struggles for minutes.

The Republic of Ireland international continues to play second fiddle to Alisson and played just five times in all tournaments last term, including one Premier League outing.

The likes of Brentford, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion were previously linked with moves for Kelleher, but the former two sides have now moved for Mark Flekken and Guglielmo Vicario respectively.

Furthermore, Kelleher's contract at Anfield does not expire until 2026, and Klopp affirmed earlier this year that it would take "extraordinary money" for Liverpool to consider a sale.
