Former Liverpool defender Phil Babb has suggested that Reds winger Mohamed Salah could leave Anfield for a world-record fee at the end of the season.

The Egyptian, who moved to Merseyside for £36m last summer, has netted 28 goals for Jurgen Klopp's team so far, including 21 in the Premier League.

Liverpool sold Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona for a reported £146m in January, despite attempts at resisting the Brazilian's sale, and Babb has said that Salah could also leave the club for a similar fee.

"[His value is] well over £100m now," Babb told Sky Sports News. "His low centre of gravity and his ability to just waltz past players, it's just an exceptional goal (against Spurs).

"He is one of the hottest properties in world football there is no shadow of a doubt. You do fantastically well but then you have the big Spanish giants and await their interest.

"They're going to keep monitoring him and see if he keeps doing it till the end of the season, and if he does well in the World Cup, do they put in a massive world breaking bid in the summer transfer window?"

Liverpool's next game is away to Southampton in the league on Sunday.
