Liverpool reportedly want to hijack Bayern Munich's move for RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer in the winter transfer window.
The Austrian midfielder is out of contract in the summer and is also harbouring interest from the German champions.
Jurgen Klopp's side have struggled with regular injuries to their engine room so far this season, with Arthur Melo the latest to be ruled out with a long-term injury.
According to Sky Germany, Liverpool are working to sign a midfielder in the January window and have the Leipzig midfielder on their list.

With his deal expiring in the summer, the report states that he will not extend his contract and is interested in a move to the Premier League.
The German club may not want to lose the midfielder for free in the summer and could cash in on the 25-year-old, especially given the interest from two of Europe's elite.
Laimer is currently sidelined with a syndesmotic ligament tear and he has not featured since the victory over Borussia Dortmund on September 10 in the Bundesliga.
Having begun his professional career at Red Bull Salzburg, he took the step up to Leipzig in 2017 and has since played 167 games for the German club, scoring 11 times.
In Austria, he was a three-time league and cup winner and he has since added to his collection with Leipzig's German Cup success last season.
