Preston North End had reportedly turned down a bigger offer from fellow Championship side Bournemouth for defender Ben Davies.
The 25-year-old has now joined Liverpool on a long-term contract for a fee believed to be worth around £1.6m.
The Athletic reports that once Davies knew of interest in him from the Premier League champions, then his mind was set on a move to Anfield.
They also state that there is a 20% sell on clause that will be included in the deal, which means that Preston would receive a fifth of any potential future sale of the defender.
Scottish giants Celtic were also reportedly interested in Davies, however the centre-back has joined up with Jurgen Klopp and Reds youngster Sepp van den Berg is to move in the opposition direction on loan.
Davies, who has made 19 appearances for the Lilywhites this campaign, could be in contention to play for Liverpool in their next match against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday.
