Report: Glen Johnson told to accept 50% wage cut to stay at Liverpool

Glen Johnson is told to accept a 50% wage cut in signing a new deal at Liverpool or search for a new club, according to reports.

Liverpool have reportedly told defender Glen Johnson that he must accept a 50% wage cut if he wants to stay at the club.

Johnson, 30, is out of contract with the Reds in the summer but the Anfield club are said to have tabled an extension.

However, the new terms stipulate that the right-back - who earns £120,000 per week - must settle for having his weekly salary cut to £60,000 in order to stay on Merseyside, according to The Mirror.

The report goes on to claim that the England international will reject the offer and seek a move abroad, with Italian side Roma reportedly 'confident' of agreeing a deal with him in January.

Johnson joined Liverpool from Portsmouth in 2009 and has since clocked 180 appearances for the club.
