Kompany: I know how to deal with injury issues

Vincent vows to return stronger than ever and bolster City's bid for silverware.

Vincent Kompany is determined to return to action stronger than ever to drive Manchester City to more silverware this season.

City's influential captain has been sidelined for the past month with what has been described as a muscular problem.

As yet no timeframe has been put on his potential return but the 32-year-old defender is working hard to get back on the field and play a part as City chase four trophies.

The Belgium international told Press Association Sport: "As a human being and an athlete I feel great but I have to deal with certain niggles from over the years.

"I will deal with it as I always have and then we're back rolling again.

"I'm not the guy that can give you the timings right now but the key thing is I have a road map as to how best to recover from setbacks. I'll follow that and you'll see me on the end of it as strong as ever."

Champions City are hoping to overhaul Liverpool at the top of the Premier League and are still competing in three cup competitions. They face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final later this month, Newport or Middlesbrough in the FA Cup fifth round and Schalke in the Champions League last 16.

He said: "Every season has been special at City but at this point in time, we are that much with our noses into what's been happening day-in, day-out we forget how much of a special season this could be.

"I want to play my role in making sure everyone realises that and does the right thing. There is still so much to look forward to."

Kompany was speaking prior to hosting a fundraising gala evening for his charity Tackle4MCR, which aims to help the homeless and combat rough sleeping in Manchester. He has dedicated his testimonial year to the initiative.

Kompany has been a key figure at the Etihad Stadium since joining City in 2008, helping the club to three Premier League titles, but his present contract is due to expire this summer.

He said: "I am in a privileged position, I have such a good relationship with the club. We're in this as partners.

"Nobody is making any hasty decisions. We have fixtures and fixtures and fixtures coming up – four trophies still to play for – and a contract that still exists.

"That is the key thing. There is no need to look too far beyond. Everybody is relaxed."
