Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia insists that he continues to back Jose Mourinho amid speculation that the manager may be sacked after poor start to the 2017-18 season.

Manchester United captain Antonio Valencia has insisted that he continues to back Jose Mourinho amid speculation that the manager may be sacked after his side's poor start to the 2017-18 season.

The Red Devils currently sit in 10th place in the Premier League table after a shock start that has seen them lose to Brighton & Hove Albion, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United in their first seven games.

The club's poor form carried on into the Champions League as Mourinho's side drew 0-0 at home to Valencia, fuelling speculation that the Portuguese has lost the dressing room.

When asked if he still supported his manager in a post-match press conference, the captain replied: "100%. He is our boss, we have to be with him and we are fighting.

"I have never had any problem with anyone, thank God. The decision [to strip Paul Pogba of his captaincy] is for the coach to make, now we need to see the positives.

"We played an important game and got a point, now we have a game against Newcastle and we need to fight. What I can say from the inside is that the lads are calm, working every day with a good attitude. We haven't got good results and that's why rumours arise."

United will be looking to turn things around when they host Newcastle United in the Premier League on Saturday.
