Ciaran Clark: 'Aston Villa determined to impress against Manchester United'

Ciaran Clark warns Manchester United that Aston Villa will be determined to impress when the sides meet at Villa Park.

Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark has claimed that the team are determined to impress against Manchester United on Friday.

The Villans play their first home match of the season this weekend as Louis van Gaal's side travel to Villa Park.

While admitting that United will make life tough for Villa during the game, Clark believes that the hosts are capable of coming away with a positive result after winning their opening fixture of the campaign against Bournemouth.

"United are one of the favourites for the title but we're determined to go out there and show everyone that we're a good side that can do well this season," the 25-year-old told the club's official website.

"It won't be easy but there's a real focus and drive in the squad, with some talented new faces, and we want to really go out and impress.

"It's been a good pre-season. The gaffer has worked us hard. He's got his ideas across and we all feel fit and energised to go out there and have a good campaign for the club. We obviously followed up our pre-season with a hard fought victory at Bournemouth and we want to continue that winning feeling."

Clark scored one goal in 29 appearances for Villa last season.
