Memphis Depay vows to prove worth to Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho

Memphis Depay insists that his form will return next season under new Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho.

Manchester United winger Memphis Depay has insisted that he will work hard to impress in pre-season in order to get a spot in Jose Mourinho's team.

The Dutchman struggled to make an impact under former manager Louis van Gaal this season as he failed to hold down a regular spot in the first team.

The 22-year-old, who signed for the Red Devils for £27.9m from PSV Eindhoven last summer, could not even make the squad for United's FA Cup final win 10 days ago.

"It's never nice to be criticised, but it is part of the game and I have to deal with it," Depay told Fox Sports. "The season did not go as planned and that hurt my confidence a bit. It's now up to me to deal with this situation and get back on track.

"I think every attacker is intuitive. You have to make decisions on when to go for an individual action. The old Memphis, who beat every opponent, will soon be back again.

"I did not play as many games as I hoped and I am obviously disappointed about that. I had different expectations. But I have to deal with that. It's now on to next season. I have to prove my worth during pre-season."

Mourinho was appointed as Van Gaal's successor last week.
