Manchester United's Juan Mata: 'Win over Bournemouth was well deserved'

Juan Mata says that Manchester United's 3-1 win over Bournemouth was "well deserved".

Juan Mata has described Manchester United's victory over Bournemouth as "well deserved".

The Spaniard was in the headlines last week after he was substituted by Jose Mourinho, despite coming off the bench himself during the team's Community Shield win over Leicester City.

Yesterday, Mata made headlines for a different reason as he opened the scoring in a 3-1 victory over Bournemouth in their opening game of the Premier League season.

Speaking about the result in his weekly blog, Mata wrote: "Overall I think the whole team played a very complete game. I believe our victory was well deserved and, on top of that, I was lucky to score the first goal of the game, which is always an extra reason to be happy. It was my friend Ander Herrera's birthday, and a victory was the best way to celebrate it."

Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic also got on the scoresheet for United at the weekend.
