Manchester United manager David Moyes has revealed that Marouane Fellaini has recently been suffering with a back problem.
It was confirmed today that the Belgian midfielder would be out of action for around six weeks following surgery to mend a wrist injury.
However, Moyes has admitted that his summer signing has also been troubled by a back injury that was taking longer than expected to heal.
"We couldn't get him to recover from his back - we thought it would be okay after 10 days. It wasn't getting any better so we made a quick decision to get [his wrist] operated on," he told reporters.
"His back is just going to take time - it was a muscle problem that wasn't healing. He hasn't felt 100% fit because of his wrist and I asked him to try to get over the Christmas period, but then he injured his back. Since then, he's never really been right."
Fellaini has made 11 appearances for the Red Devils this season.
