Jay Rodriguez "proud" of Morgan Schneiderlin's move to Manchester United

Jay Rodriguez admits that he will miss his former Southampton teammate Morgan Schneiderlin, but is "proud" of the midfielder's move to Manchester United.

Southampton forward Jay Rodriguez has expressed pride in Morgan Schneiderlin earning a move to Manchester United, whom he has claimed will be getting one of the "best" midfielders in the Premier League.

The Red Devils announced on Monday afternoon that the Frenchman has signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old spent seven years at Southampton, but made it clear at the end of last season that he wanted to fulfil ambitions of playing Champions League football, which United can provide.

"Firstly, I am a little sad about it all as he is a great player and great friend to me, but I'm very proud that he is moving to Manchester United," Rodriguez told Sky Sports News. "It is a massive club and it is a great move for him. I'm really pleased and looking forward to seeing how he does there.

"They are getting one of the best midfielders in the Premier league. Last year showed just how good he is. He's got everything he can break up play he's clever, he's fit and he's strong. He's a genuinely nice person, hard-working, who cares about his friends."

Schneiderin will fly out to the United States with his new teammates for the club's pre-season tour this afternoon.
