Ole Gunnar Solskjaer insists that Liverpool on October 20 serves as the perfect next opponents for Manchester United following Sunday's defeat at Newcastle United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that Liverpool on October 20 serves as the perfect next opponents for Manchester United following Sunday's defeat at Newcastle United.

Another performance devoid of skill or character saw the Red Devils fall to a 1-0 defeat courtesy of a debut goal from Matty Longstaff.

United have now managed just two league wins from 13 games, while their winless run away from home now stretches to 11 outings.

Speaking about the prospect of facing Liverpool after the international break, Solskjaer told Sky Sports News: "That's a perfect game for us.

"Luckily for us it's now the international break. We get time to evaluate what's gone on over these eight games.

"We will sit down, hopefully we'll get a few players back. It's my responsibility. I need to sort their heads out. Young boys lacking confidence - they need some help from experienced players and staff."

Jurgen Klopp's side are enjoying a remarkable spell of domestic form, winning all of their last 17 league games.

The Reds saw their lead at the top of the Premier League table extended to eight points following Manchester City's shock 2-0 home defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
