Darren Fletcher may return to Manchester United to work within a new recruitment structure, according to a report.
The 35-year-old has been tipped to hang up his boots at the end of the season once his Stoke City contract expires.
Fletcher spent 12 years at Old Trafford earlier in his career, racking up just short of 350 appearances for the Red Devils, before moving on to West Bromwich Albion and Stoke.
The Telegraph suggests that the Scotland international is in contention to become sporting director at his former club, where he would work alongside Mike Phelan.
As part of the newly-created position, it is claimed that Fletcher will have a major influence on the scouting market and who United sign.
United are rumoured to have already been in touch with Fletcher, who has yet to make an official decision on his next career step.
