Louis van Gaal: 'Beating Manchester City not my best moment'

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal insists that beating Manchester City last season has not been the "best moment" of his reign at Old Trafford.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that beating Manchester City last season has not been the highlight of his reign at the club.

The Dutchman failed to win silverware in his first season with the Red Devils, but did defeat his side's bitter rivals 4-2 in their clash at Old Trafford.

However, despite their lack of success, Van Gaal has insisted that it was not a highlight for him because of the underwhelming nature of his side's display.

"It was certainly not my best moment because I think we started badly in that match," Van Gaal told reporters.

"Of course we won but it cost us a lot of energy. We played better matches last year."

United play Manuel Pellegrini's men in the Manchester derby on Sunday.
