Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has claimed that Robin van Persie will only "strengthen" the squad if his move from Arsenal goes through.
The Red Devils confirmed on Wednesday that they had agreed a £24m fee for the 29-year-old Dutch striker.
"If it goes through then it's great news," Carrick told BBC Sport. "We welcome him, he had a terrific season last year. He'll just strengthen our squad even more.
"It's a huge boost. He's a terrific world-class player and it's great to bring in players of that ability and give everyone a boost."
Van Persie scored 30 Premier League goals last season to help Arsenal finish third in the Premier League table.
