Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is on the verge of joining West Bromwich Albion, according to a report.

Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone is reportedly on the verge of joining West Bromwich Albion.

Johnstone spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, and it is understood that the 25-year-old would have moved to Villa Park on a permanent transfer this summer if Steve Bruce's side were promoted to the Premier League last term.

The club's financial problems have since made the deal impossible, but Johnstone is surplus to requirements at United ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, and West Brom have recently been linked with a move.

According to Sky Sports News, West Brom are now close to completing a £5m deal for the stopper, who could replace Ben Foster as number one at The Hawthorns next term.

Johnstone has been with United since 2011, but has never made a first-team appearance for the Red Devils.
