Manchester United are reportedly growing increasingly pessimistic about their chances of signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane this summer.

Manchester United are reportedly resigned to missing out on Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane this summer.

Erik ten Hag is keen to strengthen his squad with an attacking midfielder and a central striker believed to be among his priorities.

The Red Devils are hopeful of bringing in an attacking midfielder in the shape of Mason Mount, having already agreed personal terms with the Chelsea man.

They were also looking to bolster their forward options with the addition of Kane, who has 12 months remaining on his Tottenham contract.

Kane's goalscoring prowess, combined with his ability to drop into the 10 position and create chances for his teammates, appeals to Ten Hag and his style of play.

However, according to the Daily Mail, Man United are growing increasingly resigned to failing in their pursuit of the England international.

The report claims that Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has offered no encouragement that a deal can be done this summer.

Although Kane could be available on a free transfer next summer, Levy appears to be unwilling to part ways with his most prized asset.

Kane has also been linked with a move to Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, but Kane would prefer to remain in the English top flight.

The Tottenham striker is seemingly keen to break Alan Shearer's all-time Premier League scoring record of 260 goals.

The 30-year-old is currently 47 goals away from Shearer's tally, having scored 213 times in 317 top-flight appearances.

With Man United pessimistic about their chances of signing Kane, they are now considering alternative options, including Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund.

The Denmark international has impressed in his first season for the Italian club, registering 16 goals and seven assists in 42 competitive appearances.
