Graeme Souness urges Manchester United to sign Caglar Soyuncu

Graeme Souness believes that Leicester City centre-back Caglar Soyuncu would be an ideal signing for Manchester United this summer.

Former Liverpool manager Graeme Souness believes that Manchester United should go all out to sign Leicester City centre-back Caglar Soyuncu this summer.

The 24-year-old has established himself alongside Jonny Evans in the heart of the Leicester defence this term, making 29 appearances as the Foxes lie third in the Premier League table.

Soyuncu played the full 90 minutes of Leicester's 1-1 draw with Watford on Saturday afternoon, and Souness thinks that the Turkey international could be the answer to United's defensive woes.

"Luke Shaw has qualities at left back, but could still get himself leaner and meaner, while we'll have to wait and see if Victor Lindelof will be Harry Maguire's long-term partner at centre back," Souness wrote in The Times.

"Maguire was always going to make a big difference. He's not Virgil van Dijk, but he's a good player. I reckon Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is still going to be looking at it and questioning some people, asking himself: 'Are they going to win me the Premier League or the Champions League?'

"In terms of potential solutions, I like Caglar Soyuncu at Leicester City very much. The 24-year-old Turkey centre back is strong, quick and good on the ball but crucially also takes defending seriously.

"It's not all about passing it out from the back and how he looks on the ball for him. He's the standout signing for me this summer, the centre half they will all be after."

Soyuncu is under contract at Leicester until the end of the 2022-23 season.
