Valencia to sign Juan Mata on free contract next summer?

Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata may be lured to Valencia at the end of the season when he becomes a free agent, a report claims.

Valencia have lined up an emotional return to the club for Manchester United midfielder Juan Mata, according to a report.

Mata is said to have held initial talks with United over a new contract after entering the final 12 months of his current deal.

The Sun suggests that Valencia are watching developments and may make an approach for the 30-year-old if he opts against penning fresh terms.

Los Che are unable to match the £130,000 a week that the Spain international earns, but they hope that a return to the Mestalla - where he spent four years before joining Chelsea in 2011 - may be enough to lure him into a move.

A United source is quoted by the publication as saying: "It is well known Juan is wanted by Valencia. There is a strong connection between the two.

"His deal is up next summer and it looks likely he'll leave unless something changes soon. We know Juan's motives are not related to money and there's a very strong emotional attachment to take into account."

Mata made 129 La Liga appearances for Valencia and was part of the 2008 Copa del Rey-winning side.
