RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner will reportedly undergo a medical on Tuesday ahead of completing an initial loan move to Tottenham Hotspur.

RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner will reportedly undergo a medical ahead of completing an initial loan move to Tottenham Hotspur.

The Bundesliga club announced last weekend that Werner "is in talks with another club" over a January departure after being left out of Marco Rose's squad for a mid-season friendly.

Werner had been linked with a possible move to Manchester United, but the former Chelsea forward appears to be edging close to joining London rivals Spurs.

According to the Evening Standard, Tottenham are poised to announce the loan signing of Werner as soon as he has completed a medical on Tuesday.

The 27-year-old is said to have stayed overnight at the club's Hertfordshire training base and is in the process of finalising his temporary switch from Leipzig.

Tottenham are understood to have agreed an initial loan deal with Leipzig for Werner until the end of the season, which includes an option to make the move permanent for around £14.5m in the summer.

Werner could be in a position to feature in Ange Postecoglou's matchday squad when Tottenham lock horns with Man United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

Spurs have opted to move for Werner due to the absence of captain and star attacker Son Heung-min, who is away on international duty with South Korea at the Asia Cup.

Werner is keen to begin a fresh challenge away from Leipzig after falling down the pecking order under Rose this season, starting just four of his 16 appearances across all competitions.

The Germany international hopes to gain regular first-team football at Spurs in a bid to secure his spot in Julian Nagelsmann's squad for Euro 2024.

Before returning to Leipzig for a second stint at the club in 2022, Werner had previously scored 21 goals and registered 23 assists in 89 appearances during a two-year spell at Chelsea.

Werner won the 2021 Champions League in his first season at the club and also celebrated success in the UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup, but the forward largely failed to reach the heights expected at Stamford Bridge and will hope to make his mark at the second attempt in the Premier League with Spurs.

Postecoglou's side are also said to be closing in on the signing of Genoa defender Radu Dragusin, as both clubs have allegedly reached a full agreement over a January transfer worth an initial €25m (£21.5m).
