West Ham United 'make approach for Manchester United's Jesse Lingard'

Manchester United's Jesse Lingard is reportedly a loan target for West Ham United, but the Hammers will need to make one of their temporary signings permanent first.

West Ham United have reportedly touched base with Manchester United over a potential loan deal for out-of-favour attacker Jesse Lingard.

The 28-year-old has been on the periphery of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's squad this term and has only made a trio of appearances for the Red Devils in cup competitions.

Solskjaer is supposedly happy to let Lingard depart on loan for the second half of the season, with Real Sociedad and Nice having previously been credited with an interest in the England international, who has not played a single minute of Premier League football in the 2020-21 campaign.

According to Sky Sports News, West Ham are now in the hunt for Lingard's signature and are keen to strike a loan deal for the Manchester United man until the end of the season.

However, the report adds that the Hammers must make Craig Dawson or Said Benrahma's move permanent before they can bring in another player on a temporary basis - with the latter potentially in line to complete a £20m switch from Brentford.

In order to avoid losing Lingard for nothing, United recently triggered a one-year extension in his contract to keep him on the books until 2022.
