Ciaran Clark is set to be axed from the Newcastle United squad, according to a report.
The Magpies had a busy January transfer market where the club focused on bringing in players for a variety of positions in order to bolster the squad to fight against relegation.
Eddie Howe recruited; Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Matt Targett and Dan Burn during the last month as the new manager looks to guide his team to safety this season.
According to Football Insider, Newcastle are set to drop Clark from their revised 25-man squad, as the Magpies must remove three players from that list in order to accommodate those new squad members.
The 32-year-old defender had been told he was free to leave the club this month, and Championship side Middlesbrough had made an effort to sign him, but that was something Clark rejected.
Howe has now decided that the Republic of Ireland international will be one of the players to drop out of his squad, despite the fact he has 18 months left on his contract.
