Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has thanked the club's fans for their patience following Sunday's 1-0 win over Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The Magpies had failed to score in nearly eight hours of football before Loic Remy struck late at St James' Park.
Pardew now hopes that the team can build some momentum and climb up the table.
"We probably just did enough and it was nice to see the stadium buzzing at the end, because the fans have been very, very patient with us and not had lots to cheer recently," he told the club's official website.
"That goal was so important for this club, to get some momentum back because we had lost it. It was a big, big result."
Newcastle's Premier League campaign resumes on Saturday with a trip to Hull City.
