Preview: Peterborough United vs. Exeter City - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Monday's League One clash between Peterborough United and Exeter City, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Aiming to make it five wins from six matches, Peterborough United welcome Exeter City to the Weston Homes Stadium on Monday afternoon in round 41 of the 2022-23 League One season.

Meanwhile, the away side set out to secure an immediate return to winning ways having seen their three-game unbeaten run come to an end last time out.

Peterborough were victorious away from home for the third match running thanks to an emphatic 3-0 triumph over Shrewsbury Town at Greenhous Meadow on Friday.

Darren Ferguson's men broke the deadlock on the half-hour mark through Jonson Clarke-Harris before second-half goals from Ephron Mason-Clark and Jack Taylor sealed the deal.

As a result, the Posh have moved up to sixth place in the League One table, albeit ahead of Derby Country only on goal difference in the race for the final promotion playoff place.

Next up is the challenge of an opposing outfit who have only come out on top in just one of the last seven editions of this fixture across all competitions since 1999.

However, that solitary win did come in the most recent encounter back in November, when Monday's hosts fell to a 3-2 defeat in this season's reverse fixture.

Exeter came away empty-handed in front of their fans for the first time since February as they fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against Bolton Wanderers at St James Park on Friday.

Conor Bradley opened his account for the year with a 19th-minute strike, and that was enough to put Gary Caldwell's men to the sword in a keenly-contested affair.

Having picked up 53 points from 40 games so far, the Grecians sit 11th in the standings, 14 points off playoff contention with just six rounds of matches left to play.

Currently winless in their last five matches on the road, Monday's visitors will be keen to turn their away fortunes around on a ground where they have lost on each of their previous four trips.

Team News

Jevani Brown has not appeared for Exeter since late January due to a knee problem and the forward is not expected to play any part in Monday's affair.

Twenty-six-year-old Demetri Mitchell missed his side's last outing with a knock but he could be recalled to the starting lineup for this one.

Peterborough's Jonson Clarke-Harris grabbed his 23rd league strike of the season last time out, opening up a four-goal lead at the top of the scoring charts.

Frankie Kent has featured in all but four of the hosts' 40 outings this term and the Englishman is in line to feature in the heart of the defence once again.

Peterborough United possible starting lineup:
Norris; Ogbeta, Edwards, Kent, Thompson; Mason-Clark, Taylor, Norburn, Ward; Poku, Clarke-Harris

Exeter City possible starting lineup:
Blackman; Hartridge, Aimson, Sweeney; Key, Collins, McDonald, Kite, Sparkes; Scott, Nombe

SM words green background

We say: Peterborough United 3-1 Exeter City

With so much left to play for, Peterborough will need no further incentive to grab this game by the scruff of the neck. We are backing the hosts to dominate proceedings and get the job done in relatively routine fashion.
