Goalkeeper Keylor Navas targets long-term stay at Real Madrid

Real Madrid's Keylor Navas says that he is 'happy and calm' ahead of the new campaign, which looks likely to start with him as first-choice goalkeeper.

Keylor Navas has revealed that he intends to stay at Real Madrid "for many years to come", despite seeing numerous goalkeepers linked with the club during the off-season.

Los Blancos triumphed both domestically and in Europe last time out, winning La Liga and the Champions League in a campaign to remember.

Many felt that this was in spite of Navas and not because of him, however, with David de Gea, Thibaut Courtois and Gianluigi Donnarumma all being tipped to join the Spanish heavyweights in recent weeks.

The Costa Rica international appears to have seen off the competition for now, but he is still unwilling to get too carried away as he is fully aware of the pressure that comes with being number one at the Bernabeu.

"What happened in the past has happened. This season I am happy, I am calm as always," he told reporters. "I have to keep my feet on the ground. It's not easy here. I want to stay here for many years to come.

"I've enjoyed it, I've won here and I've seen my family so happy here. It's not just about [learning from] errors – that's not going to limit me in how I look to keep improving."

Navas, who is a part of Madrid's squad for their tour of the United States, kept a total of just six clean sheets in 38 league and European games last term.
