Napoli quash Gonzalo Higuain, Cristiano Ronaldo attack

Napoli release a statement denying that striker Gonzalo Higuain referred to ex-Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo as overrated and egotistical.

Napoli have poured cold water on claims that striker Gonzalo Higuain bashed former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo in a scathing magazine interview.

The Argentine hitman made headlines on Sunday for labelling his Portuguese counterpart as overrated and egotistical during an apparent interview with Spanish publication Don Balon.

The Italian club released a statement denying such comments: "Napoli and Higuain categorically deny ever he has been granted an interview with 'Don Balon'.

"Therefore the sentences attributed to Higuain are considered false and without any foundation."

The 27-year-old played alongside Ronaldo for four years at the Santiago Bernabeu, before joining the Partenopei in 2013.
