The Saints fashioned a number of chances within the first half hour, and Steve Davis had a decent opening on 15 minutes before Adam Lallana, who has been lively throughout, found Gaston Ramirez, who hit the bar with a deflected effort.

away before saving Lallana's shot on the edge of the box.

Southampton were asking for penalty when Caulker leaned into Luke Shaw, but the referee waved away the appeals five minutes from half time.
