Roy Hodgson: 'James Ward-Prowse is a big prospect for England'

England manager Roy Hodgson confirms that Southampton midfielder James Ward-Prowse is in his thoughts for a call-up to the senior side.

Roy Hodgson has described James Ward-Prowse has a "big prospect" for England following his recent performances with Southampton and the England Under-21s side.

The midfielder captained the Young Lions during their 3-2 win over Germany Under-21s last week, scoring the winning goal at the Riverside Stadium.

Hodgson told BBC Sport: "He'll be in our thoughts because we like him very much. We've kept our hands off him simply because of the Under-21s, but we know he's a big prospect."

Ward-Prowse, who agreed a five-and-a-half year contract extension with Southampton earlier this year, has made 24 appearances for the Saints so far this season.
