Rafael Van der Vaart gives Tottenham Hotspur a 1-0 lead over Swansea City at the interval.

Tottenham Hotspur lead Swansea City 1-0 at the interval of their Premier League encounter at White Hart Lane.

It was the away side who enjoyed a spell possession in the early stages of the match, with Joe Allen and Leon Britton involved in the dictation of the match.

Tottenham had the first real chance, however, after eight minutes when Rafael Van der Vaart fired wide from close range.

Swansea were next to come close via Wayne Routledge a minute later, but he struck wide from outside the box.

Emmanuel Adebayor struck wide from a Gareth Bale cross after 11 minutes, as the game began to open up for both teams.

Neil Taylor drove into the box for the away side after 16 minutes, and might have gone down, but Spurs defender William Gallas got back to make the challenge.

Tottenham eventually took the lead after 19 minutes when Van der Vaart slotted past Michel Vorm after fine work from Bale.

The goal boosted Spurs, and Younes Kaboul so nearly added a second after 30 minutes with a header from inside the box.

Sandro was next to come close for the home side after 35 minutes, as Tottenham began to press Swansea, who enjoyed the majority of possession in the first period.
