Mauricio Pochettino cools Tottenham Hotspur's Champions League hopes

Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino cools suggestions that Champions League qualification is in the reckoning after thumping West Brom 3-0 to move fifth in the table.

Mauricio Pochettino has moved to play down Tottenham Hotspur's top-four prospects after they thumped West Bromwich Albion 3-0 at The Hawthorns.

An opening goal from Christian Eriksen and a double from Harry Kane helped Tottenham to their fifth victory in seven Premier League outings.

Spurs are now fifth in the table, two points adrift of fourth-placed Southampton, and Pochettino says that a Champions League place is up for grabs if his side learn how to replicate this afternoon's display.

"We don't speak about that, I think that we need to focus on the next game," he told reporters. "Step by step, I think this is our objective - no objective or challenge on the long term. We need to play every game like we played today.

"If we show the performance like today, maybe we have the possibility to arrive [in the top four] but we need to be consistent from here to the end of the season."

Spurs host fellow top-four hopefuls Arsenal in next Saturday's North London derby at White Hart Lane.
