Tottenham Hotspur set new Premier League record with Leicester City comeback

Tottenham Hotspur set a new Premier League record after their astonishing late comeback against Leicester City on Wednesday night.

Tottenham Hotspur arguably pulled off the greatest comeback in Premier League history on Wednesday night as they dramatically edged out Leicester City.

Spurs were trailing 2-1 at the King Power Stadium with eight seconds left of the five minutes of added-on time.

Steven Bergwijn volleyed home from 10 yards at that moment, seemingly securing a share of the spoils for the visitors with the full-time whistle imminent once Leicester had resumed the game.

However, after the Foxes conceded possession, a through ball found Bergwijn, who proceeded to round Kasper Schmeichel and find the back of the net via the far post, sparking chaotic scenes within the Spurs supporters.

The comeback, albeit without the carrot of the Premier League title on offer, was more dramatic than Manchester City's famous overhaul of Queens Park Rangers to win the 2011-12 crown.

On that occasion, City found their equaliser with 91 minutes 14 seconds on the clock, whereas Spurs' second goal in the East Midlands came after 94 minutes 52 seconds, setting a new record for the latest that a team had been trailing in a Premier League game before going on to seal all three points.
