Southampton captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg admits that he is ready to "play at an even higher level" amid speculation linking him with a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Southampton captain Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has offered the clearest hint yet that he will look to leave the club this summer amid reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 24-year-old was linked with a move to the North London outfit during the January transfer window, and recent reports have suggested that Jose Mourinho's side could revive their interest this summer.

Hojbjerg's current contract at St Mary's expires next summer and so Southampton are open to cashing in on him rather than losing him for free in 2021, and the player himself has now admitted that he is ready to move to a "higher level".

"I know what I want, the club knows it too. I want to play at an even higher level than I am currently. The relationship between me and Southampton is fantastic," Hojbjerg told SPORT1.

"The club gave me the platform to grow. I'm not saying 'goodbye' and I'm focused on my club, but my goal is very clear: I want to win the Premier League and the Champions League.

"I gained a lot of experience [at Bayern Munich] so that I could move on to develop elsewhere. When I was 23 I became a captain in a Premier League club. Now I'm hungry to get to the next level."

Hojbjerg has made 129 appearances for Southampton since joining in 2016, including 33 across all competitions this season.
