Tottenham Hotspur have confirmed that winger Andros Townsend will be sidelined for 10 weeks with an ankle injury.
The 22-year-old suffered the problem on Saturday during Spurs' 1-0 win at Stoke City in the Premier League.
The length of Townsend's absence means that he will be unavailable for England at this summer's World Cup in Brazil.
"Following further examination and consultation, Andros Townsend is to undergo surgery on his left ankle on Thursday after damaging ligaments during our fixture against Stoke City last Saturday," read a statement on Tottenham's official website.
"The injury is likely to sideline the young winger for up to 10 weeks."
Townsend has scored three goals in 38 games for both club and country this season.
