Sunderland have signed Fiorentina defender Marcos Alonso on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 23-year-old has previously played in the Premier League for Bolton Wanderers, but made the switch to Fiorentina at the start of the season.
"I can confirm Marcos will be with us for the rest of the season on loan, which is something very important for us," Black Cats boss Gus Poyet told reporters at a press conference.
"I was always looking for a player at left-back or on the left side so I'm delighted he's here.
"It's competition for Andrea Dossena who is the only recognised left-back we have here - they are different sort of players so it helps us with our options."
Alonso has completed a medical and will officially link up with his new teammates on Wednesday.
