Pablo Hernandez: 'Michu deserves Spain chance'

Swansea City winger Pablo Hernandez believes that Michu's call-up for Spain is long overdue.

Swansea City winger Pablo Hernandez has declared that his teammate Michu deserved his maiden call-up for the Spanish national side this week.

Michu was picked for the first time by Spain boss Vicente del Bosque for their World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and Georgia following David Villa's withdrawal through injury.

Spanish international Hernandez believes that Michu's performance against Valencia in the Europa League last month finally persuaded Del Bosque that he deserved recognition.

He told the club's official website: "I was very happy to hear Spain had called up Michu because he really deserves it.

"Of course, he scored 22 goals last season and he has started this season very well too, but he brings much more than goals to a team.

"In Spain there was talk of him getting a call-up not so long ago, but now everyone has seen his performances and I think after the Valencia game they knew it was time for him to be included."

Spain are level on points with Group I rivals France ahead of their final two qualifiers, but have a game in hand on Les Blues and sit in pole position.
