FIFA has confirmed that the Football Association has asked for Nicolas Anelka's five-match ban to apply to all matches worldwide.
The Frenchman was recently suspended by an Independent Regulatory Commission after performing a controversial 'quenelle' gesture while playing for West Bromwich Albion against West Ham United in December.
Anelka, 35, was sacked by the Premier League club last week for gross misconduct.
The FA has now requested that the striker's punishment be upheld wherever he plays next.
English football's governing body confirmed on Thursday that they would not be appealing the length of the ban handed out to Anelka.
