Fabianski: 'Money does not play football'

Lukasz Fabianski insists that "money doesn't play out on the pitch" as West Ham United seek to claim their first points of the new Premier League season.

Lukasz Fabianski has stressed that "money doesn't play out on the pitch" as West Ham United seek to claim their first points of the new Premier League season.

The Hammers were one of the busiest Premier League sides in the transfer window this summer as they made nine new signings and appointed the illustrious Manuel Pellegrini as their new manager.

However, West Ham remain without a point this season after losing 4-0 at Liverpool in their campaign opener and falling to a 2-1 home loss at the hands of Bournemouth.

"[Bournemouth] punished us for the mistakes we made and I think we will be smarter after that game," Fabianski told Sky Sports News. "I understand the price tags and the money spent, and everyone then believes because of that you are better than other teams, but the money doesn't play out on the pitch.

"It's all about performing on the day. With time we will be much better as a team and a group. A few players came from different leagues and it always takes time to adjust to the pace and speed and intensity of the Premier League. Even though we lost the first two games I think we will have a good season."

Up next for West Ham in the Premier League is a trip to Arsenal, who are also pointless at present.
