Mick McCarthy still believes he is the man to keep Wolves up after their defeat to West Brom left his team in the bottom three.

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Mick McCarthy will not resign following the club's 5-1 home defeat to bitter rivals West Bromwich Albion.

During the game, angry Wolves fans chanted: "You're getting sacked in the morning," then around 200 gathered by the statue of Wolves legend Billy Wright and sang: "Fuck off, McCarthy, you're taking us down."

McCarthy made his position clear after the defeat, by saying: "I always feel I'm the right person to do it."

West Brom manager Roy Hodgson said he felt "sympathy and empathy" for his opposite number, while stating his belief that the Molineux side have the ability to avoid relegation.

He said: "I think they will [stay up] because they have an outstanding owner as well as an outstanding manager."

Skybet have made McCarthy 4/7 favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post.
