Webb Simpson reveals that he will miss the British Open next month because his wife is expecting their second child.

US Open winner Webb Simpson has confirmed that he will miss next month's British Open to attend the birth of his second child.

Simpson, who won the US Open title in San Francisco last week, has admitted that he is disappointed to miss the tournament at Lytham but insists that it was an 'easy decision'.

The American said: "I'm a guy who loves my family and we're probably only going to have a couple more babies, so I have the rest of my life to play in the British Open.

"After winning it's certainly a little harder not to go because I'd love to go and try to win another major, but in the grand scheme of things and grand scheme of life it's a decision that I know I'll always be happy that I made.

"I don't want to miss the birth of the second child, so it's an easy decision."

Simpson is fifth in the world rankings following his maiden major victory.
