Castres flanker Ibrahim Diarra has been suspended for eight weeks after being found guilty of stamping on Glasgow Warriors prop Moray Low.
The Frenchman made contact with Low during the second half of the Heineken Cup meeting between the pair at the weekend.
European Rugby Cup bosses revealed that the offence was considered at the high end, but they deducted seven days from the initial nine-week ban because of Diarra's previous untarnished record.
The 29-year-old, who is due to miss back-to-back fixtures against Northampton Saints and Ulster in January, is expected to appeal the decision.
