DJ Forbes: 'Home support is massive'

New Zealand sevens captain DJ Forbes talks up the importance of having the home crowd behind them following their match against Commonwealth Games hosts Scotland today.

New Zealand sevens captain DJ Forbes has insisted that having the crowd behind them makes a "massive" difference to the players on the field.

The All Blacks almost fell to their first ever defeat at the Commonwealth Games today as host nation Scotland came back from 17-0 down at half time to almost spring a massive upset, only for five-man New Zealand to hold on for a 17-14 victory.

Ibrox Stadium has been almost full since Forbes and co got the sevens underway against Canada this morning, and he talked up the difference a home crowd can make to such an event.

"It's massive. We know what it's like to play at home in Wellington," Forbes told Sports Mole.

"Obviously here in the Commonwealth Games you couldn't ask for a better thing as a player to see the crowd turn up. The first game against Canada was pleasing, and I can only guess what it is going to be like tomorrow."

New Zealand have won their opening two matches and will book their place in the medal tournament tomorrow should they avoid defeat against minnows Barbados.
