Andy Murray impressed with Kyle Edmund progression

Andy Murray admits that he has been surprised by the rapid progress of Kyle Edmund, who guided Great Britain to the Davis Cup semi-finals over the weekend.

Andy Murray has predicted a bright future for Kyle Edmund after he guided Great Britain to victory over Serbia in the quarter-finals of the Davis Cup.

In the absence of Murray, Edmund registered straight-sets wins over Janko Tipsarevic and Dusan Lajovic to help the defending champions seal a 3-2 win in Belgrade, and Murray has suggested that he has been surprised with the rapid progress of his British compatriot.

The 29-year-old is quoted by the Daily Mail as saying: "He is a lot better than a lot of people thought he was going to be, myself included. There's no reason why he can't get right up to the top of the game.

"I still think there are some things he can improve but he has big weapons, bigger than a lot of the young guys that are ahead of him.

"When he gets more experience and learns how to use them better, gets a little bit physically stronger, gets used to playing in atmospheres like this more and more, he's going to go a long way."

Great Britain will host Argentina in the semi-finals in September, with the winner of that tie facing either France or Croatia in the final.
