Kimiko Date-Krumm defeats Laura Robson in Osaka

Great Britain's Laura Robson is out of the HP Open after losing in straight sets to Kimiko Date-Krumm.

Kimiko Date-Krumm has defeated Laura Robson in straight sets to progress through to the second round at the HP Open in Osaka.

The 43-year-old defied the 24-year age gap to to record a 6-4 6-4 triumph over the British left-hander.

Robson, who was the number seven seed for the tournament, struggled with her second serve as Date-Krumm broke twice in the opener to move one set away from an impressive win.

The Japanese player traded breaks with the 19-year-old during the second set, before striking again in the ninth game to book an encounter with Misaki Doi.
