Andy Murray says sorry to his fans after losing to Roger Federer 4-6 7-5 6-3 6-4 in the final of Wimbledon.

British number one Andy Murray has apologised to his fans after his Wimbledon final defeat to Roger Federer.

Murray lost in four sets as the Swiss claimed his seventh SW19 title and moved back to the world number one ranking.

The 25-year-old, who received immense support from his home crowd throughout the tournament, has said sorry after coming so close to being the first Brit to win Wimbledon since Fred Perry in 1936.

"It's been amazing," Murray said.

"They're certainly not the ones that make it hard to play. They make it much, much easier, you know. When you have a crowd like that behind you, it's a lot easier to play.

"Thanks for the dedication. Sorry I couldn't do it for them."

Murray is still searching for his first Grand Slam crown.
