Preview: Aberdeen vs. Eintracht Frankfurt - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Thursday's Europa Conference League clash between Aberdeen and Eintracht Frankfurt, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

The final game of the group stage for the Europa Conference League will be taking place on Thursday night, as Aberdeen continues to look for their first win in this season's competition when they host Eintracht Frankfurt.

While the hosts cannot qualify for the knockout rounds, the visitors are unable to finish higher than second, with this game being more about personal pride and momentum than impacting the table.

After six matches without a victory in all competitions, Aberdeen got back to winning ways at the weekend when they faced Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.

The Dons came from behind with a goal from Bojan Miovski and a 92nd-minute winner by Leighton Clarkson to defeat the Jambos 2-1, and they will attempt to take confidence from that into Thursday night.

Barry Robson's men have been unable to win a match so far in the Europa Conference League with three draws and two defeats, and the defensive side of the game has been a big reason for that.

Aberdeen has conceded 10 goals across five games in the competition, which is something that Robson will be hoping to focus on for the final match.

While the Dons are unable to earn a top-two spot they will be pushing to not finish bottom, which is something that could happen if they are unable to win and HJK Helsinki does.

The visitors have already earned a second-place finish in the group and cannot finish any higher, therefore the focus here will simply be on building momentum ahead of the knockout stage.

Eintracht Frankfurt were defeated 2-1 in their previous Europa Conference League match, and that is something they shall be attempting to put behind them here.

The team should head into Thursday with a lot of confidence following a dominant performance in the Bundesliga, where they were victorious against Bayern Munich last weekend.

Not only did they defeat Thomas Tuchel's men, but they dominated the game with an emphatic 5-1 win that showcased their attacking quality as four different goalscorers got on the scoresheet.

The German outfit have been a great offensive outfit in Europe so far as well, having scored 11 times already this season which should lead to them causing Aberdeen some problems.

Team News

Jack Milne started his first game of the season at the weekend for Aberdeen, and following a positive result he could end up being kept in the team in midweek.

Miovski is likely to lead the line after finding the back of the net against Hearts, and a decision will have to be made as to whether Duk or Ester Sokler partners him.

The visitors have been dealing with a plethora of injuries as of late as Sebastian Rode is dealing with a calf injury, meaning the club will be without their captain.

Timothy Chandler, Jens Hauge and Ellyes Skhiri are all also on the sidelines at the moment with muscle problems, stretching the team even further.

Frankfurt will also be missing Noel Futkeu for this fixture due to a suspension as he was sent off during their previous outing in the Europa Conference League.

Aberdeen possible starting lineup:
Roos; Devlin, Gartenmann, Jensen; Milne, Clarkson, Shinnie, Hayes, McGrath; Miovski, Sokler

Eintracht Frankfurt possible starting lineup:
Trapp; Buta, Tuta, Koch, Pacho, Max; Chaibi, Dina Ebimbe, Larsson, Knauff; Marmoush

We say: Aberdeen 0-3 Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt might be the away side here, but they will be the favourites heading into this match due to their position in the group.

Coming off the weekend Aberdeen should have confidence because of the victory, but the attacking qualities of the visitors should push them over the edge.
