Tom Daley claims to be in the "best shape" of his life for Commonwealth Games

Two-time Commonwealth Games gold medallist Tom Daley insists that he is in the "best shape" of his life amid reports that he might soon retire from diving.

Tom Daley has declared that he is in the "best shape" of his life for the upcoming diving event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Daley, 20, won gold medals in both the individual 10m platform and synchronised 10m platform on his Commonwealth debut in Delhi four years ago and enters these Games in confident mood.

As well as preparing for next week's diving, which takes place at Edinburgh's Royal Commonwealth Pool, Daley has had to rubbish speculation that suggested he might retire after the Games.

Daley has insisted that he is focused on both Glasgow and the next Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, adding that he has never been fitter.

"Last year was full of injuries, but I'm now in the best shape I've ever been in," he told reporters.

"You always go through those stages. You go through ups, you go through downs but that's what makes the ups worthwhile.

"It's a journey that you have to go on. You can't always stay on a high throughout your diving career."

Daley might not be able to defend his 10m synchro title as he is yet to decide on a partner for the event.
