Former AC Milan defender Ruud Gullit believes that Italian football is struggling due to their poor stadiums.

The Dutchman has also urged Serie A clubs to follow Juventus in improving their facilities, in order to bring attendance numbers up at lesser sides.

"The biggest problem in Italian football now are the stadiums. They are old and people don't want to go there," Gullit stated to the Daily Mail.

"Juventus' attendances were poor and then they opened a new stadium and all of a sudden it was packed.

"The seats are nice, the facilities are good and they are proud of it. Other clubs need to do the same. Win Euro 2012 and the attendances might creep up again."

Only three Serie A sides had an average attendance of over 35,000 last season.
