Per Mertesacker believes that Arsenal are now confident following the departure of key players.

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker believes that the Gunners have already moved on from their summer departures, including the sales of Robin Van Persie and Alex Song.

Arsenal beat Liverpool 2-0 at Anfield yesterday and are yet to concede a goal in the Premier League this season.

"We believed in ourselves against Liverpool and that was the most important thing as we played fantastic," he told the club's official website.

"Some important players moved and we didn't know where we stood, but now we know.

"You could see in the dressing room directly after the match. We are very proud to play for Arsenal. We used the opportunity to show everyone what Arsenal are about."

It was Arsenal's first win, following two goalless draws. They next face Southampton at home when the Premier League resumes following the international break.
